Readings - Employment in a Sustainable Economy

Full employment is a crucial policy goal for most countries that is considered to be pivotal to economic and social success, but is not necessarily linked to environmental success. This is unfortunate. When labour force changes driven by population growth and demographic shifts along with environmental limits to growth are factored-in, the effectiveness of current full employment policies and practices are questionable. A fundamental re-formulation is necessary as all our current models are based on an expanding population, workforce and economy. We need to look for solutions that work for the economy, environment and social sector and exclude any solutions that undermine any of these three pillars. More...
